In an effort to offer more services to our curly clients, East 42nd Street Salon is introducing CurLab and Curl Clinic.

What they are...

CurLab is a chance for our curly apprentices, junior stylists, and master stylists to experiment with new cut and color techniques. Because it is a "lab" environment with a new cut or color technique, there is a discounted cost. The CurLab service includes a cut and color service, up to but not including a full pintura. Cost is $100 for master curly stylists, $85 for junior curly stylists, and $75 for apprentices. You can purchase additional add-ons as well, such as deep conditions and two or more colors. You can also elect to only do a cut and forgo the color, in which case the service is half price. CurLab is a fantastic opportunity to get creative with your curls and try something new and different! CurLab appointments are taken on Wednesday evenings only. Call now for more information!

Curl Clinic is an intensive, one-on-one tutorial on home curl care. Your curly stylist will walk you step-by-step through your styling routine, from cleansing and conditioning to styling and finishing. We encourage clients to bring their products and appliances (diffusers, clips, etc) from home so we can best recreate your everyday routine. Curl Clinic is also a great way to learn styling tricks and tips, such as updos or different ways to wear your hair. Cost is $25 and is being offered by junior and master curly stylists.

Elizabeth O'Brien

Elizabeth O'Brien was born and raised in Richland Center, WI where the abundance of outdoor activities and untouched nature helped mold her perspectives and connections which would become apparent in later work. Elizabeth started creating work using acrylic and plexiglas, in a reverse removal manner. While living in Montana, the landscape and attitude played a huge role in influencing her natural lines of movement, as well as earth tones and intricate balances created between things.

Shecky's Events a Success!

Shecky's Girls Night Out was a huge success!! We had Sara, Teresa, and Laura doing fantastic updos and styles. Markus, Carolyn, and Raven doing nails. Update from East 42nd!!!

We have alot of new and exciting things happening at East 42nd Street Salon!

Dread lock services are now being offered. If you need maintenance or want a full set of Dreads, or even just a few, Liz and Cayla are now our dread specialists.

Also, we are creating an event for the first Wednesday of every month for new clients only. It's called Hair-U-Dare. it will run from 5-9 pm. We will be offering services at a discounted price. This is your chance to get to know the stylists and for them to get to know you. You will need to give them a little freedom on your hair.

Shine On

You may think that grey hair makes a woman look older than anything else, but according to a recent survey by ELLE Magazine, it’s actually dull, frizzy hair that communicates age. For the hair (curly or Straight) to appear shiny, shiny, shiny, the cuticle must be closed. That can be achieved with thermal finishing or wet sets. Also, well-conditioned strands tend to reflect more light because the formula “plugs up” the uneven cuticle layers in damaged strands. Another shine enhancer? Color glazing/glossing services used as stand-alones or to enhance a previous color application.
